Young people from across Warwickshire were invited to share their views on how newly qualified drivers could be better protected at a special event hosted by Philip Seccombe.
The event took place in January at the Aston Villa Training Ground and brought together students to discuss measures aimed at improving safety for young and novice drivers.
Participants were asked for their views on a range of potential safeguarding measures, including longer learning periods before taking the driving test, limits on carrying passengers, night-time driving restrictions and motorway use.
The session aimed to ensure the voices of young people are included in conversations about how best to reduce serious collisions involving newly qualified drivers.
The event was co-hosted with Project EDWARD and supported by a number of local partners, including the Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership, North Warwickshire Borough Council, Warwickshire County Council, Warwickshire County Council Public Health and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Feedback gathered during the event will now be collated and shared with road safety partners to help inform future work aimed at reducing young driver casualties.
The Police and Crime Commissioner continues to advocate for Caitlin’s Campaign and the introduction of progressive driving licences as part of efforts to better protect young drivers and their passengers.
